5-Hour Energy 400 Race Recap

5-Hour Energy 400 Race Recap

By: NASCAR Wagers, NASCAR Handicapping Service

Jeff Gordon has knocked on the door of victory lane all season and that door finally opened tonight. After getting caught in the pits during a caution which put the #24 team a lap down, Gordon battled his way back and raced his way to 2nd place behind Kevin Harvick with 40 laps to go. Kevin Harvick dominated the majority of the race leading 119 laps and appeared to be cruising towards his 3rd victory of the season. However during the last round of green flag pit stops, Harvick’s team slipped slightly and allowed the #24 car to overtake him. Once Gordon got the clean air and green flag stops cycled through, he was able to drive away to score his 89th career victory while becoming the first 3 time winner at Kansas Speedway.

Tonight’s race presented a perfect prelude to next week’s All-Star Race at Lowes Motor Speedway. If you remember the famous quote from the movie Days of Thunder “loose is fast and on the edge of out of control”, then that pretty much describes everything you saw tonight at Kansas. Several drivers hugged that fast/out of control border line all night which led to several single car spin outs and a few big race incidents. These drivers and crews are putting these cars on that fine edge to get the most speed possible which is presenting some fantastic 1.5 mile speedway action. Once the lights turn on at Charlotte for a no holds barred shootout for 1 million dollars, expect things to get even crazier. Check back with us next week as we prepare for a full weekend of racing from the Truck race on Friday, the All-Star race on Saturday, and the Nationwide Series at Iowa on Sunday.
