NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Betting Preview

Where: Talladega Superspeedway

Earlier today Brian Scott earned his first career Sprint Cup Series pole and he will have the luxury of leading 43 cars to the green flag at 1:20pm eastern on Sunday in the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Superspeedway. Once the green flag drops, rest assured all hell will break loose as cars thunder around the 2.66 mile superspeedway at speeds over 200mph while racing at times 3 and 4 wide throughout the pack.

That exciting style racing is just one reason fans love restrictor plate racing. Another reason is that restrictor plate racing occasionally produces surprise winners. Just last year, David Ragan won the Aaron’s 499 as an enormous 150-1 longshot. While Ragan surely spoiled the day for most bettors, he was also a huge payoff for others. If you have the courage to bet some of those big longshots, it can payoff in unprecedented ways.

While these races may be very tough to predict, the odds compensate for the level playing field at restrictor plate tracks and the payoff for picking a winner at this style of racing can be huge. Therefore, our staff at NASCAR Wagers always likes to throw out a few more wagers than normal at restrictor plate tracks in hopes for a big turnaround. Tomorrow’s race will not be any different as we have several drivers picked out with a lot of upside. Take a look at our Aaron’s 499 race picks:

Aaron’s 499 Race Picks

Dale Earnhardt Jr +1300 (1 unit): Can anyone really leave Junebug off their roster? The king of restrictor plate racing that won the Daytona 500 earlier this year and finished 2nd in his most recent trip to Talladega. No further explanation needed here.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr +5000 (1 unit): Our newsletter pick for his impressive performances early in his career at restrictor plate tracks.

Brad Keselowski +1400 (1 unit): If you read our fantasy preview, we identified that Keselowski does not get enough respect as a restrictor plate racer. Keselowski already has 2 Talladega wins in just 10 career starts and always seems to find the front when it matters.

Clint Bowyer +2100 (1 unit): Two-time winner and running chassis that Martin Truex Jr raced to an 8th place finish at Talladega.

Kyle Busch +1350 (.5 unit): Finished in the top 5 in 3 of the last 4 Talladega races. Car showed some speed out of the draft in practices and appears to have a solid ride.

David Ragan +7500 (.5 unit): Last year’s winner and only driver to finish in top 10 in each of the last 4 races at Talladega.

Top 3 Finish

David Gilliland +1700 (.5 unit): Gilliland pushed Ragan to the win last April here at Talladega and has the 4th best average finish among drivers that have started the last 4 races at Dega.

Austin Dillon +900 (.5 unit): Running chassis that finished 9th at Daytona and started on pole. RCR cars have shown a lot of speed all weekend.

Jamie McMurray +600 (.5 unit): Two time Talladega winner including most recently in October 2013.

H2H Bets

Greg Biffle -115 over Kurt Busch (1 unit)

Jeff Gordon -105 over Jimmie Johnson (2 units)
