Crafton to replace Kyle Busch in Daytona 500

Ryan Reed scored his first victory in the Xfinity Series in today’s Alert Today Florida 300 at Daytona International Speedway. However the main headlines following today’s event surrounded Kyle Busch who was the victim of a wicked crash with 7 laps to go in the race. Busch was running 5th and attempting to push the #20 car of Erik Jones when the back end of the car went around on Jones. The incident sent Busch screaming across the inside pavement and grass head on into a concrete wall that was not protected by NASCAR’s safer barrier technology. Busch hit the wall at nearly 100mph suffering a compound fracture in his lower right leg and also suffering a fracture in his left foot. Early reports indicate Busch will be out for an extended period of time as he starts his recovery process. Matt Crafton will step into Busch’s #18 Toyota, that was slated to start 4th, in tomorrow’s Daytona 500. Despite 14 full seasons in the Camping World Truck Series including most recently back to back championships, this will be Crafton’s first career start in the Sprint Cup Series.
