Kevin Harvick wins the pole for the Brickyard 400

Today Kevin Harvick captured his 4th pole of 2014 by breaking NASCAR’s track record at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a lap of 188.889mph. It was Harvick’s 2nd pole at Indianapolis for the Brickyard 400. In 2003, Harvick captured his only win in the Brickyard 400 by winning from the pole. Tomorrow, ‘Happy’ will try to capture another win from the pole at Indy when he leads the field to the green flag at 1:15pm (EST). Harvick’s pole run was at the forefront of a strong day by Stewart-Haas Racing machines. Outside of Harvick, both Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch qualified inside the top 10 with Danica Patrick making a strong qualifying effort in the 14th position. Another storyline that echoed throughout Saturday was the continued strength of Chevrolet horsepower. Chevrolet engines have been phenomenal at the horsepower tracks this season and they occupied 6 of the top 10 positions. All 3 Penske Racing Ford’s will start inside the top 10 including Juan Pablo Montoya that will be making his 2nd start of the season. Perhaps Penske Racing drivers will have the best chance of ending Chevrolet’s 11 race winning streak at the Brickyard 400 when the green flag drops tomorrow afternoon. Be sure to check back with us for our full handicapping preview for tomorrow’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
