All of NASCAR’s touring series will be in action this weekend at Nashville Speedway which will provide 3 straight days of racing. The action kicks off Friday night with the running of the Rackley Roofing 200 among a field of mostly Truck Series regulars. In fact, there are not any Cup Series’ drivers showing on this week’s entry list which is rare when both series are at the same venue. However, the defending winner of the Rackley Roofing 200, in Ryan Preece, will return to the #17 with Team DGR as they look for a potential 2nd straight victory at Nashville and a 2nd straight victory overall stemming from last week’s win with Todd Gilliland at Knoxville.

Personally, I find Friday night’s return to Nashville in the Truck Series very intriguing from a betting standpoint. I know our picks have been cursed with bad luck in recent weeks but I’m really hoping/expecting to turn this around with a great opportunity for all of this weekend’s races. The reason this Rackley Roofing 200 has piqued my betting interest is because there are not any clear-cut favorites going into Friday’s nights even regardless of what betting odds may suggest. For example, John Hunter Nemechek is currently the overall betting favorite despite just having 1 victory this season and coming off a pretty bad performance at Nashville last season. Nemechek is just one example of many drivers where I feel the betting odds are “off” and I’m hoping that leads to good betting opportunities.

For those unfamiliar with Nashville Speedway, the track is one of the newer surfaces on the NASCAR schedule having been built back in 2001. NASCAR did not visit the track, through any touring series, from 2011-2021 and the Cup Series hosted their very first race last season. The track is a 1.33 mile oval with a fully concrete surface like Bristol and Dover. The size of the track represents an intermediate style speedway but the banking is also very flat and produces more tire wear than you would expect from a concrete surface. Therefore, drivers that excel on flatter surfaces and are good about saving tires will likely benefit from this Nashville setup on Friday.

Handicapping Notes

In terms of the current Camping World Truck Series schedule, I would label World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway the closest track in comparison to Nashville. The Truck Series competed at Gateway just a few weeks ago which was surprisingly won by KBM driver Corey Heim who pulled off his 2nd win of the season. In that race, I would also give notable mentions to Christian Eckes and Chandler Smith who both had excellent runs and were able to stay in the top 5 throughout the entire event which perhaps boosted their stock going into Friday. A few other rapid fire observations that are noteworthy are listed below:

• Zane Smith continues to be the top driver in the Truck Series and this is another good track for the #38 team
• Grant Enfinger has historically been an excellent driver on flat surfaces and had an average running position of 4th in this race last season
• Derek Kraus has been trending in the right direction with top 10 finishes in 3 of the last 6 races. Following a strong run at Nashville in 2021, Kraus yields potential H2H value in lower-tier matchups
• The pole winner has won 4 of the last 5 races in the CWTS at Nashville Speedway

Betting Targets

For clarity, Camping World Truck Series’ teams and drivers will get the opportunity to practice and qualify Friday afternoon just a few hours before the green flag for the Rackley Roofing 200. In typical Truck Series fashion, bettors will have a slight window before odds are reposted before the beginning of the race. I would suggest locking in the most sharp/valuable plays prior to practice and perhaps we will have a better understanding of the speed unloaded from the hauler after practices before finalizing our plays.

As it currently stands, Zane Smith is the clear standout in terms of betting targets for the outright victory. Despite already capturing 3 victories this season, Smith still has weekly betting value and there is no driver in the series that I trust more this week than the driver of the #38. Among the favorites, I am completely staying away from John Hunter Nemechek and Ryan Preece because they simply don’t have enough betting value. Stewart Friesen, Christian Eckes, and Ty Majeski are the drivers with better value in the intermediate category. Personally, I like Majeski the most out of the group based on his improvement this season and I’m starting to believe he is among the best regulars in the sport.

In terms of H2H options ahead of Friday’s lone practice session, Grant Enfinger is an excellent H2H option based on current odds and pairings. Enfinger has always excelled at the flatter surfaces and he is surprisingly having a solid season with top 8 finishes in 6 of the last 9 races. Behind Enfinger, I also really like the duo of Derek Kraus and Chase Purdy for reliable H2H options. I mentioned Kraus above so I will not spend much more time explaining my reasons for targeting the #19. For Chase Purdy, I really like Purdy as a low-tier H2H and fantasy option. Purdy has been consistently around the top 15 all season but is still considered a bottom-tier driver. As a result, we may be able to scalp some betting value in all formats.

Practice Notes and Final Thoughts

Update: Practice and qualifying just concluded at Nashville Speedway and last year’s winner Ryan Preece ultimately emerged as perhaps the outright favorite. Preece had a really strong practice in the #17 truck for Team DGR who is going for their 2nd straight victory and also won the pole for tonight’s Rackley Roofing 200.

Preece actually posted the best overall average in practice among all competitors which seems to be the trifecta to confirm his spot as tonight’s favorite. Behind Preece, several of the names that I mentioned prior to practice also looked very sporty in the likes of Ty Majeski, Grant Enfinger, and Derek Kraus. I would also throw notable mentions to guys like Matt Crafton and Jack Wood who clearly exceeded expectations in the brief practice session this evening.
