2019 GEICO 500 Race Picks

Today marks the dawn of a new era in NASCAR for what we have traditionally called the “restrictor plate” tracks. For the first time in 32 years, NASCAR will not run restrictor plates at a superspeedway when the engines fire for today’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. In reality the new tapered spacers that replace the aforementioned restrictor plates, still act nearly the same in the way they restrict air to the engine. Perhaps the biggest difference in the tapered spacers and the package brought to Talladega this week compared to the previous “plate package”, is the mere technicality in how air will be restricted to the engines combined with the aerodynamic changes in 2019 involving the larger spoiler/splitters. We will talk about what that means and the impact it will have on today’s race as we provide our 2019 GEICO 500 race picks for Talladega!
