NASCAR’s Xfinity Series will go racing on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway later tonight in one of the most prestigious races on the Xfinity Series schedule by way of the Subway Firecracker 250. Tonight’s race will kick off the traditional double header July 4th weekend at Daytona as the Sprint Cup Series will take center stage tomorrow evening for the Coke Zero 400. However, tonight all eyes will be on the Xfinity Series as 43 cars battle it out for 250 miles for the victory. Take a look as we preview tonight’s race and provide our 2016 Subway Firecracker 250 race predictions!

Chase Elliott leads a small group of Sprint Cup Series drivers that will be participating in tonight’s event which includes Joey Logano, Austin Dillon, Aric Almirola, and David Ragan. Elliott captured the checkered flag at the beach back in February in the #88 car for JR Motorsports and will eye a 2016 Daytona sweep. However, all of the Sprint Cup Series drivers should be legitimate threats to contend for the victory tonight. Logano has a proven restrictor plate resume that includes a Daytona 500 victory and a win in this race in 2011. Austin Dillon is the defending Firecracker 250 winner and who could forget David Ragan’s big surprise victory in the 2011 Coke Zero 400 in the Cup Series?

However everyone knows that these restrictor plate races can be completely unpredictable. It is all about being in a position to win the race in the closing laps and making the right moves to capture the checkered flag. We know guys like Erik Jones and Ty Dillon should be fast. Both guys have enough experience in their young careers to get the job done. Jones actually topped the speed charts in Thursday’s only practice session that was shortened by weather. Obviously practice speeds do not hold a lot of weight towards predicting race winners when it comes to restrictor plate racing but the #20 car has been one of the fastest cars in the field all season.

Having a fast car just gives drivers the opportunity to keep their cars at the front of the pack and potentially keep their self in position for a win. However, there are plenty of drivers that can get the job done. Ryan Reed is a former Daytona winner. Elliot Sadler has two restrictor plate wins including earlier this year at Talladega. Not to mention there are other drivers who are capable of finding their way to victory lane. Darrell Wallace Jr, Justin Allgaier, and Daniel Suarez are a few outsiders that I believe could be potential surprise stories. I really like Allgaier and Sadler as potential drivers for the upset tonight simply for the fact of how well the JR Motorsports cars have performed on the restrictor plate tracks this season.

Needless to say there are plenty of options to go with tonight. I have a few guys that I will be backing based on the restrictor plate resumes and performance this season. However, the key to betting these races is to make sure you are getting the most value from your betting lineup. I like to approach restrictor plate racing with a low risk/high reward betting strategy. The fastest car often does not win these races but the potential is always present for a big winner. Therefore, just make sure you are getting a solid ROI on your drivers and hope your drivers can make the right moves to cash a winning ticket!
