The NASCAR Xfinity Series will take center stage this afternoon at the Monster Mile with the running of the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet 200. Today’s race will also mark the return of the Dash for Cash series. Therefore, the field will be split in two different heat races followed by a 120 lap main event to decide today’s winner. As we prepare for another exciting afternoon of racing, we take this time to provide our 2016 Ollie’s Bargain Outlet 200 race predictions!
One thing that will be evident this afternoon is the lack of Sprint Cup Series talent that will be participating in today’s race. Joey Logano and Paul Menard are the only two drivers from the Sprint Cup Series racing this afternoon. Obviously, Logano is a huge favorite based on his Dover resume that includes 4 wins in his last 6 starts. The only thing that could potentially hold Logano back today is the performance and current state of the #22 team.
The #22 car has not performed at the same level as they have in recent years and have admittedly struggled to find speed. Logano’s 11th place qualifying effort earlier tied his worse career start at Dover in the Xfinity Series. Therefore it is pretty obvious the #22 team is down a bit on speed. The good news for Logano supporters is that Dover typically has longer green flag runs so having a car that does not fall off in lap times and handles well will be extremely important. The #22 team hit on both of those factors pretty well in Friday’s practices and I believe Logano will rally from this 11th place starting position.
Outside of Logano, Erik Jones is likely the biggest threat to win today’s race. Jones has been extremely fast all weekend and qualified the #20 car on the pole. Jones’ only start at Dover was a 9th place finish in this race 1 year ago. However, Jones has proved to be one of the fastest guys at Dover this weekend. I expect Jones to lead a lot of laps early and ultimately challenge for the victory. Along with Jones, I would not count out teammate Daniel Suarez. The JGR cars have really had an advantage all year in the Xfinity Series and Suarez finished 2nd in yesterday’s truck race which could help him to some degree this afternoon.
A few other guys that I expect to run well include Justin Allgaier and Elliott Sadler. All of the JR Motorsports cars have been strong this weekend including the #88 of Alex Bowman. Both Allgaier and Sadler have had really strong starts to the 2016 season. Allgaier has already posted 3 top 5 finishes while Sadler has earned 4 top 5 finishes including the win most recently at Talladega. I am not sure if Allgaier or Sadler have anything for the Jones or Logano. However, I do think both drivers could run well and possibly score another top 5 this afternoon which makes both drivers strong candidates in H2H situations.
