NASCAR’s Xfinity Series will drop the green flag on the Kansas Lottery 300 this afternoon at Kansas Speedway. Several of the Sprint Cup Series’ biggest stars are set to mix it up with the Xfinity Series regulars this afternoon. The likes of Austin Dillon, Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano, Kyle Busch, and Matt Kenseth promise to provide some exciting racing today along with numerous betting options for the Kansas Lottery 300. Find out our thoughts on today’s race as we offer our 2015 Kansas Lottery 300 race picks!
With just 4 races remaining on the season, Chris Buescher holds a pretty comfortable 26 point advantage over Chase Elliot in the points race. Typically the point’s battle is just a secondary excitement for Xfinity Series action as our main focus is always on predicting winners. However, Buescher has shown a ton of speed throughout practices this weekend that may deserve some attention going into today’s race. Buescher was fastest in the first practice, 2nd fastest in final practice, and posted the best 10 lap average in final practice.
The speed the #60 car has shown off the trailer has been a bit surprising considering he has not run exceptionally well in several weeks. In the last month, Buescher posted two 7th place finishes at both Chicagoland and Kentucky which are most similar to Kansas amongst other tracks in terms of size and banking. Therefore it will be interesting to see if the points leader can back up the speed they have shown off the trailer with a great run this afternoon.
Of course the Sprint Cup Series guys will all be the heavy favorites this afternoon especially considering the fact we have some of the biggest names in the sport set to roll off later today. However, those Sprint Cup guys have were not too impressive on the speed charts throughout Friday’s practices. Kyle Busch looked the best among the Cup guys and that should be of little surprise. Busch won at a similar Chicagoland last month in a race that was riddled with Sprint Cup talent. In fact teammate Matt Kenseth, who is also racing today, finished 2nd in that event as well. Kenseth posted the 2nd best 10 lap average in final practice and will possibly be the next best option behind the #54.
It was a little bit surprising to see that Dillon, Harvick, and Logano were not quite as strong in Friday’s sessions. Dillon has really been impressive on the 1.5 mile tracks this season including last week’s victory at Charlotte. Of course Logano and Harvick are expected to compete for wins any time they suit up in the Xfinity Series. However, all 3 of those teams struggled to a degree on Friday and it will be interesting to see what type of changes were made for this afternoon’s 300 mile race. I would expect all 3 guys to still run fairly well but perhaps keep the biggest eye on Logano in the #22 car. He is a two-time winner at Kansas in this series and I would expect him to contend if they can get the car a little better.
If you are looking for a few guys that will have some upside today, consider Daniel Suarez to be on top of the names in that group. Suarez was really impressive last week at Charlotte after the team struggled in practice. He drove through the field and simply got better as the race went along. This week the #18 has unloaded really well and if they can continue to make gains then they should be able to have a really good afternoon. The next guy that should be included in that group is Chris Buescher who I spoke about earlier. I think Suarez and Buescher have really good rides. While I think the #18 is the biggest threat in terms of upset potential, both drivers should be given heavy consideration in H2H matchups!
