STP 500 Fantasy Preview

Mar 24, 2014 by NASCAR Wagers

The Sprint Cup Series travels back to the east coast this Sunday in the STP 500 at Martinsville Speedway for some rugged short track racing. Martinsville Speedway is a paper clip shaped half mile track that races like a super speedway. Drivers will be beating and banging against each other for the inside racing lane which is the fastest lane on the track. Unlike other tracks with multiple racing grooves, drivers must protect the inside groove or they will go backwards which leads to a lot of hard-nosed racing focused around track position.

Auto Club 400 Results

Kyle Busch earned his 29th career victory in the Sprint Cup Series today by winning the Auto Club 400 in Fontana, California. Busch took advantage of a last race caution by taking 4 tires when several drivers took just two tires to setup a green-white-checkered finish. Busch was able to drive his #18 Toyota Camry from 5th to 1st and then hold off Kyle Larson on the final half lap to score the win. While Busch basked in the glory of the California sun, tire wear overshadowed today’s racing action. Tire wear negatively impacted racing action all afternoon. Every 20 to 25 laps of green flag racing was ended by blown tires including our top pick to win the race in Jimmie Johnson. Johnson had a two second lead with less than 10 laps to go and appeared to be cruising to his first victory of the season before blowing a tire that ended his chances for the win. More than half of the field experienced some type of tire problems today in a similar setting that GoodYear experienced at the 2008 Brickyard 400. Check out the finishing order and the rest of the Auto Club 400 results below:

Denny Hamlin to miss Auto Club 400...

Mar 23, 2014 by NASCAR Wagers

Breaking news out of Fontana, California. Denny Hamlin will not race in today’s Auto Club 400 due to a sinus infection. Hamlin had qualified in the 13th position for today’s race but doctors advised Hamlin to sit out of today’s race due to a sinus infection that was effecting his vision. Obviously this will raise some questions since just a year ago, Hamlin suffered a broken vertebrae in a crash at the Auto Club 400 that derailed his 2013 season. As a result, Sam Hornish Jr will fill in and drive the #11 FedEx Toyota. Hornish has 6 career starts in Fontana in a Sprint Cup car but has never finished inside the top 10. Check back later for a recap of the Auto Club 400 as the green flag is set to drop at 3:18pm eastern.

Auto Club 400 Race Picks

Mar 23, 2014 by NASCAR Wagers

If the Nationwide race in Fontana was any indicator of things to come, we should be in store for an extremely exciting race tomorrow when the green flag drops for the Auto Club 400. Sprint Cup rookie Kyle Larson captured his first win in the Nationwide Series earlier today in the 300 holding off Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick in an exciting 3 way battle in the closing laps. The fast speeds and close racing action displayed in the Nationwide Series race should also been seen again tomorrow when Sprint Cup Drivers get rolling at the 2 mile Auto Club Speedway. 300 Race Preview and Picks...

The NASCAR Nationwide Series will take the green flag today at Auto Club Speedway in the 300. Regan Smith currently holds a 1 point lead over Trevor Bayne in the Nationwide Series point’s standings. Both drivers have finished inside the top 10 in every race this season which is something no other driver has accomplished. However, keep your eye on the talented rookies of Ty Dillon and Chase Elliot. Dillon is 3rd in the standings just 8 points back while Elliot is 4th and 13 points back. Both young drivers have proven they have tremendous talent and I would not be surprised if either made a serious run at the championship.
