Last week, Richmond International Raceway produced some of the best racing we have seen this year in the Sprint Cup Series. Fans were treated with a classic 4 car battle for the win with 8 laps to go and plenty of hard-nosed racing throughout the night which led to several post race altercations. Richmond’s hangover effect of drama and excitement will spill over this Sunday when drivers unleash 850 horsepower on the high banks of Talladega Superspeedway for the Aaron’s 499.

Richmond Delivers – Toyota Owners 400 Recap...

Last September Richmond International Raceway produced one of NASCAR’s most controversial races in series history. ‘Spin-gate’ as it was later called overshadowed a great night of racing when Clint Bowyer apparently spun out on purpose to draw a caution in effort to help, Michael Waltrip Racing teammate, Martin Truex Jr race his way into the Chase. As we all know, NASCAR was forced to hand down several major penalties that included kicking Truex Jr out of the Chase while adding both Ryan Newman and Jeff Gordon to an expanded 13 car field. NASCAR’s fair competition rules were tested and ultimately the on-track racing that Richmond produced was overshadowed by the dramatic events that unfolded.

Toyota Owners 400 Race Picks

Sprint Cup Series drivers and teams participated in two practice sessions early Friday before rain washed out qualifying efforts. According to NASCAR rules in the event qualifying is cancelled, the starting lineup is determined by the weekend’s first practice speeds. As a result, rookie Kyle Larson will lead the field to the green flag Saturday night for 400 miles of racing at Richmond International Raceway.

Sprint Cup Series qualifying efforts were rained out today for the Toyota Owners 400. After holding two full practice sessions in the early hours on Friday, rain fell on Richmond International Raceway shortly before qualifying efforts were set to begin. Since qualifying was washed out, NASCAR rules indicate the Toyota Owners 400 starting lineup will be determined from the first practice speeds. As a result, rookie Kyle Larson will lead the field to the green flag Saturday night at approximately 7:14pm eastern. The first practice was held early Friday morning which will present an interesting start to tomorrow night’s race considering track conditions will be vastly different once the lights shine on Richmond International Raceway. ToyotaCare 250 Race Picks

The NASCAR Nationwide Series will get the racing weekend started on Friday night with the running of the ToyotaCare 250 at Richmond International Raceway. Earlier this afternoon, drivers participated in two full practice sessions and James Buescher posted the fastest lap in the final 90 minute session at 121.79mph. Qualifying for the ToyotaCare 250 will take place at 3:10pm eastern tomorrow which will set the starting grid. The green flag is expected to wave shortly after 7:00pm if Mother Nature cooperates as rain is in the forecast for tomorrow night’s event.
