It's the Australian truck racing series that is switching from the traditional V8 Utes to turbo diesel powered Japanese style dual cab pickups.

What do you guys think about these as race trucks?

I don't know about speed but I guess pretty fast. Although they are based on off the shelf trucks and there will be a standard racing mod pack you can buy for about 60k and I'm not sure how fast you can really get a bloody diesel to go for just that much.

Not sure if i like the idea or not.

I drive a proper Aussie ute and like them a lot. These Jap things I dont know about so much.

Although I guess that makes the race car only about 100k total.

Pretty damn cheap for a televised racing series. You'd cover all the rest of your costs with sponsorship even as a backmarker I bet.

If I was moderately wealthy I'd think about that sort of series.

The reason they are doing it is that in 2016 the Toyota Hilux pickup was the biggest selling vehicle in Australia. A truck.
