I can't even think right now but who takes his place at JGR???

There has to be a reason behind this sudden retirement

Seems like a random time to retire??? He's only 37 and the season starts in a couple of weeks. Something crazy must have happened. Sucks for JGR, they could have moved Eric Jones into that car.

I totally agree something must have happened to him personally. Hell he was a restart away from being the champion!

No way he would wait and just want to retire this close to a new season and not give Gibbs a WAY longer warning.  Just unbelievable at The PRIME of his career still.  I'm just stunned

Looking at Suarez in #19?  Have a fill-in role til somebody next season?

Some lucky bastard whoever goes in that car and team. Wow

Early Reports are that " he has other interests" ??

Says he made the decision about 3 weeks ago. Don't know why we are just hearing it

What the hell does that mean. So what who doesn't

Just off

If I remember right, the plan was to move Eric Jones to a JGR car next season anyways. I think most people thought that Kenseth would move on and Eric jones would take that ride. I cant wait to hear the story behind Edwards retiring, Nascar drivers never just quit right before the season, they always let everyone know a year in advance and do the goodbye tour like Gordon and Stewart just did. I bet the sponsors on that car are pissed.

Erik jones is already racing for new furniture row team in the #77 this season.

I'm sure had they known anything even close to this happening he would have been signed to JGR.  Now they will be settling for Suarez in the #19

Noticed that Carl avoided the actual word retirement.  Sorta left the door open if right opportunity comes in the future.  Not sure how it can be better than the one he just left

In much smaller news Rico Abreu and john Wes townley also won't be racing in a full time capacity anymore either in the lower series

yes mike that's why I posted the story

Carl didn't say retire, that's just how people interpreted it

he just said he's not racing this year and that's what the fox sports title is
