Racing this weekend from the super fast Monza circuit in Italy.

Will come back with a full preview but just wanted to post a bet.

Fastest in Practice 1: Roman Grosjean 66/1
Fastest in Practice 1: Pastor Maldonado 100/1

Just a gut feeling Lotus will come out and do some low fuel runs and try to show off in practice as the team is desperate to find an investor right now. Before the next race. Bernie Eccelstone stepped in and plonked down a couple of million to pay all the staff just so they could make this race.

Worth a tail if your book offers this.

Might have been lucky. Grosjean isnt driving in P1 with his car going to test driver Jolyen Palmer.

But Maldonado is fastest after Mercedes in first runs.

Would expect them to go for fastest if they plan to do it later in session.

Huge gap between Mercedes and everyone else in top speeds.

They are showing 10kph (6mph) faster in the speed trap than Ferrari and almost 20kph better than Red Bull.

They are also a lot faster than other Merc engine teams top speed which is unusual as they generally carry more downforce than Williams/Force India/Lotus.

This could be due to them taking new engines and announcing they have spent the last of their engine upgrade tokens for the season on them. Merc claimed the changes were more for testing for next year than designed to improve performance this year but it appears they lied through their teeth so far.

The other Merc teams have not got the new engines yet.

Lotus concentrated on long runs and never used the softer tyres, so my 'gut feel' was wrong there

Both Red Bull drivers, both Torro Rosso drivers and both McLaren drivers are taking big grid penalties and will all start from the rear. With Ricciardo last with a 25 grid spot penalty.

Ran out and grabbed a coffee and watching Q1. They talking about Ferrari really wanting to be strong in their home country. Maybe I'll waste some money on Ferrari to win.

Yeah the Tifosi (Italian fans) make Monza a big weekend for Ferrari every year. Honestly though it often seems to just result in more pressure for the team than needed.  They get crucified in Italy if they do badly here.

Qualifying closer than expected

Great bet on Vestappen h2h at those odds Yisman!

Rosberg had a problem with his new version Merc engine and has reverted to the older model and a unit that already has 4 or 5 races on it.

Mercedes have not worked out what the issue was yet but if it is found to be a design fault Hamilton may also revert back to the older engine. Or if they do risk it there is a  chance Hamilton will develop the same issue Rosberg did.

Ferrari also have new upgraded engine versions here and from driver comments they had faster 1 lap pace than they expected from it.

YES for Safety Car is the usual bet here as there are lots of gravel traps outside fast corners (so cars get bogged) but with the new Virtual Safety Car rules this year I expect they will use that method instead of a proper Safety Car for cars stuck in sand traps.  take the big dog, NO safety car.

Worth a shot on Lewis retiring first... One becasue of the new engine questions and two because there is a long run to first corner and with the new manual start rules anythign could happen wen they reach it.

if you want to take a longshot for fast lap the Torro Rosso and Red Bull cars all starting at the rear will make both teams split strategies between drivers... good chance one car from each team will attempt to run long and change to final tyres late. This is the only shot thy have at fast lap though as are simply not fast enough on equal rubber and fuel levels.

bad news... Mercedes say they traced the problem to coolant leaking into the oil system and it should not affect Hamilton.

"Overnight investigation has revealed the cause of Nico Rosberg's problem in FP3 yesterday," said Mercedes via Twitter.

"This was traced to a leak in the cooling system which contaminated the power unit, not a problem with the engine itself."
