Should be an interesting race this week. The Montreal track is very tough on brakes, which has been the one minor achilles heel the Mercs seem to have.

Such a different style of track to Monaco should see the order shuffled and hopefully some betting opportunities. He hopes.

Strange to see Maldonado shorter than Grosjean and Sainz shorter than Verstappen.

Would love to see your input on fastst lap prop !

With the long straights here you would expect the Merc engine cars will have the outright pace. Mercedes, Williams and Lotus.

Having a quick look back the race winner has not generally set fastest lap too. Raikkonen the only current driver with multiple fastest laps here.

Massa took it in the Williams last year.

So I guess

Valtteri Bottas     +5500
Felipe Massa     +7200
Romain Grosjean     +8800
Pastor Maldonado     +8800

Plus Kimi as a saver

Kimi Raikkonen     +720

But I expect Kimi odds will get bigger than that once Williams show some pace in practice. And if Lotus do.

I've came so close in that fastest lap prop in the past just to come up short the few times I've tried.   I think I hit with Kimi once last year  I tried

Are you playing these or just answering the question?

Hamilton to win -150. Figured I would bet early this race because after qualifying it always goes to -270 or worse. Feels like money was stolen from me on my Hamilton bet with what went down last race. Figure they owe me for that one.

Was just answering the question.

Too many unknowns for too much early betting this week for me. Although I would like to put soemthing on the Lotus cars for top 6/10, I've been caught out a couple of tiems already trying to anticipate when they will fianlyl perform as they should be. Thye have the best engine and a great chassis. It's tough to understand how they can be doing so badly with it really. But I am sure when they hot the sweet spot they can even challenge Ferrari.

Big unknowns this week is where are the engines going to be.  Ferrari and Honda have spent "performance upgrade tokens" and can deploy new versions of their engines if they wish. Honda will for sure but Ferarri have been saying they may not for this race. (which doesnt make sense really as this race really needs horsepower)

On top of that Mercedes are bringing brand new engines that have had "reliability upgrades" (which can add performance too).

Sooooo...a lot is up in the air. If Ferrari dont bring the new powerplant and the Merc upgrades pull them further ahead then Williams and Lotus may turn out to be wildcards for top 6 in this race.

Another factor is Redbull and Torro Rosso drivers have used 4 engines for all 4 drivers. If they bring an upgraded Renault engine for this any of their drivers that use it will attract a 10 spot grid penalty (for exceeding the max number of engines allowed per season)

And... one more issue will be who has the brakes sorted best. Merc and red Bull have the most problems in this area.

Anyway, I really dont know what to bet on yet. Although agree with Wog Dog that if you want to bet Hamilton the -150 is likely the best we will see this weekend. And if Rosberg happens to beat him in quali, I'd just add more at the +100 type odds he will be then. Easy to pass here.

Gonna start sticking optional's F1 thread for their races as well.  When people want to bet F1 they come to optional and this thread only for all questions and always want to see oprional's input. Plus ur race write-ups on what to expect pre and post practices are bar none and jay agreed

I will Try and make sure it's there every time they race.  If I forget just remind me.  We want all our best handicappers at their best area of the racing circuits to be front and center

 :cheers

Practice 1 finished.

Looks like the Merc engine cars have the advantage, by quite a way if P1 times are any real guide.

Hamilton was faster than Rosberg on every run and 1.5 secs (!!) ahead of the rest of the field.

Grosjean in the Lotus 3rd and Hulkenburg in the (up to now kind of useless) Force India 4th ahead of Vettel... which shows just how much better the Merc engine is after upgrades.

Still not sure if Ferrari have used an upgrade engine so far.... but after P1 I would not be surprised if they do deploy the new version now. Raikkonen could not even crack the top 10 and 5th really flattered Vettel.

Looks like the Honda upgrade has worked for McLaren as well. Button had a few issues but Alonso showed they now have enough speed to expect top 10.

Williams not as good as i expected so far... but that is only P1.

Took Grosjean for Top 6 +350

Wish I had bet him earlier at about double that now :( Still think that will prove to be best odds available from now and still pretty good.
