Tonight NASCAR’s Xfinity Series takes their opportunity to go racing at Kentucky Speedway when the green flag waves for the Alsco 300. Last night the Truck Series put on an exciting show as William Bryon held off both John Hunter Nemechek and Daniel Hemric in the closing laps to win his 4th race of the season. Tonight we anticipate another great night of racing from an extremely talented field that will include former Xfinity Series Kentucky winners in Brad Keselowski, Austin Dillon, Brendan Gaughan, Kyle Busch, and Ryan Blaney. With such a talented field participating, things could get very interesting. Take a look as we provide our full race preview and 2016 Alsco 300 race predictions!

One thing the former race winners will have to deal with tonight is a completely new Kentucky Speedway. Over the offseason, the 1.5 mile track was repaved and banking was added to turns 1 and 2. The new design has created an asymmetrical layout that is rare for 1.5 mile layouts. Hopefully, the changes will produce even greater racing at Kentucky and considering the enormous amount of talent in tonight’s field; we should have a great race. Additionally, there was a wide array of names at the top of the leader boards on Thursday. The Xfinity Series held 4 different practices to give drivers and teams the chance to get accustomed to the new track layout.

Austin Dillon led the first practice, Erik Jones finished P1 in the next two practices, and Daniel Suarez closed out the final session with the fastest lap. Even though the Joe Gibbs cars of Kyle Busch, Daniel Suarez, and Erik Jones took down 3 of the top 4 fastest times in the final practice, I still think there was a lot of disparity amongst teams at the top of the leader boards in practices. As a result, we should have plenty of betting options that could turn into potential winners tonight. Obviously, the JGR cars are going to be strong as they have been all year. Kyle Busch is always a threat and has a 2004 Kentucky win to his resume. However, I think Erik Jones has been the fastest of the JGR bunch thus far throughout the weekend and will be a threat for the win tonight.

Outside of the JGR bunch, I think several guys have a strong shot to run well this evening. Brad Keselowski is tied with Joey Logano for the most Xfinity Series wins all time at Kentucky with three each. Keselowski has shown speed all weekend in the #22 car and he should run upfront tonight. However, I believe teammate Ryan Blaney has shown even more speed in the #12 car for Team Penske. Blaney won the most recent race at Kentucky last September and actually has two Kentucky wins to his credit. Blaney had one of the fastest cars that led several laps back at Charlotte and the entire Team Penske organization has improved on the 1.5 mile tracks since the start of the year. The #12 car has got better throughout each practice and I believe is poised for a strong showing.

Speaking of former winners, one guy that I have not mentioned yet is Austin Dillon. Dillon is also a two-time Kentucky winner and has to be considered a threat for tonight’s race. However, he has not shown quite as much speed as the other guys previously mentioned thus far this weekend. If you are looking for a few guys that could bring some value in H2H match-ups, I would put the #3 car of Ty Dillon at the top of the list. The younger Dillon has had success at Kentucky on the old layout in both the Truck Series and Xfinity Series. In fact, Dillon finished runner-up to Ryan Blaney in at Kentucky last September. The #3 car has shown a lot of speed this weekend and I think he is going to be a must-play in H2H situations. Additionally, expect the likes of Justin Allgaier and Cole Custer to race their way forward when the green flag waves.
